download FREEFLIGHT game for nokia

FREEFLIGHT brings the fun and the emotion of flight simulation to a J2ME mobile phone, capable of 3D rendering (JSR-184). There is no peculiar target in FREEFLIGHT. Just the fun of flying in what is likely to be the most realistic sky ever brought onto the screen of your mobile. If you’re not familiar with aeronautics, four simple lessons will lead you from basic control of the aircraft up to acrobatics maneuvres. So, take the lessons or just go flying....It’s your choice!

THE AIRCRAFTS :Freeflight gives you four very different aircrafts to play with. Each one has different performance and handling, and each one has animated control surfaces. If you’re not familiar with flying and need some training, or you just want to make a calm and pleasant flight, the CESSNA C172 is the plane for you as it is one of the most popular trainers in the world. Then, you may want to try the agility of an unlimited-class aerobatic plane. If so, take a ride on the PITTS S2 SPECIAL. Or may be you need to feel the power of a thoroughbred like the P-51 MUSTANG,

which during the World War II was the king of the skies, and now its is the king of the Reno Air Races. Last, take the ride of the life on an F-16 FALCON, the world famous military jet fighter, depicted in the Thunderbirds team colors.
THE LANDSCAPE

As one of the most beautiful aspects of flying is the beauty of the landscape, FREEFLIGHT provides the most realistic landscape allowed by current mobile phone technology.
A complete airport with 2 runways and surrounding countryside, depicted with detailed photographic textures and real-time haze provide a detail that is simply stunning for a mobile phone.

AIRCRAFT DYNAMICS

One of the most challenging aspects of freeflight was to semplify the dynamics and control systems to fit a mobile phone, yet keep them enough complete and realistic to achieve the look and feel of a flight simulation. As result, flaps, rudder and gear controls are not included, but nevertheless the flight dynamics allow all the basic flying maneuvers plus the basic aerobatics figures such as barrell roll and loop.

Free iPhones and MacBooks to students Oklahoma Christian University

Free iPhones MacBooks to studentsHavent heard of it either, but they must be the Cal to Abilene Christian Universitys Stanford (or sub your fav rivalry here) as they seem ready to pony up the cash necessary to fund the next free-gear-to-students publicity stunt.

This time the offering is not only an iPod touch or iPhone, but a new MacBook as well -- and to sweeten the deal, current students can trade their machines in for a new one. Your tuition (and tithing) dollars hard at work, OCU parents, students, and alumni.

Lenovo ThinkPad X301

Like all ThinkPads, the ultraportable X301 features a rectangular black case built around a sturdy chassis. Theres still a blue ThinkVantage button above the keyboard, a fingerprint reader below it, and a keyboard light on the top edge of the display. However, ThinkPad fans will notice small touches that make the X301 a bit more attractive than other ThinkPads.

The lid and wrist rest feature an appealing soft matte finish the ThinkVantage, power, and mute buttons glow when pressed and the front edge is devoid of any ports or switches. In addition to the keyboard light, the ThinkPad X301s display bezel includes a 1.3 megapixel Webcam and a noise canceling digital microphone for Web conferencing.

The matte finish display itself features a 1,440 x 900 native resolution thats sharper than that of the MacBook Air and other similar size screens, resulting in text and icons that are a bit smaller than youd expect. So far the sharper resolution hasnt caused tremendous problems, though we did find ourselves pumping up the font size on a newspapers Web site so we could read a lengthy article.

We also zoomed in a bit when working on documents and spreadsheets. The trade off more screen real estate for multitasking and, when its time for a break, beautiful video.

Given the amount of typing the typical executive does through the course of the workday, a keyboard can make or break an ultra portable. The ThinkPad X301 actually uses the same keyboard found on Lenovos 14 and 15 inch models which is to say, not the condensed keyboard found on previous X series models and many ultra portable laptops from other manufacturers. After conducting several days work on the ThinkPad X301, we still dont feel like weve been typing on a laptop. We love it.

Lenovo decided to include both the red eraser head TrackPoint pointing stick and a touch pad on the ThinkPad X301. The decision is understandable many ThinkPad users are viscerally attached to their TrackPoints, while other users cant stand it, so why not include both methods? However, the double sets of mouse buttons seem to run counter to the overall theme of simplification that the ThinkPad X301 embodies.

In order to make room for the TrackPoints buttons, the touch pad is placed rather low on the wrist rest, with its buttons near the laptops front edge. Fortunately, the ThinkPad X301 is thin enough that we could use the touch pad with our wrist resting on a desk surface or on our leg, when the laptop was in our lap. Of greater concern is the fact that, during our lazier typing moments when our wrists dropped to the wrist rest, we were likely to graze the touch pad and accidentally misplace the cursor.

Trouble With iPhone Apps Business

Apple iPhone Apps BusinessIts no secret that being an iPhone app developer is at times rough business, mostly due to Apples goofy authoritarianism. But judging by some recent soul-spilling by a few leading devs, things are getting rougher.

Craig Hockenberry of Iconfactory, developers of Frenzic and Twitterific, started things off with a post lamenting the difficulties of rising above the iPhone apps endless sea of 99-cent mediocrity (a sea I’ve spent plenty of often painful time wading through for our Week in iPhone Apps column). In his post, he worries about being damned to endlessly constructing 99-cent so-called "ringtone" apps rather than well-designed and innovative apps that take more resources to develop.

Hockenberrys "Dear Steve" states that an iPhone devs life would be a lot easier if they could accurately track who exactly is downloading their apps (and which ads/links they clicked on to get to the store), and the ability to offer free demo version of apps that expire after a given time, prompting people to purchase the full app.

After setting off quite a ruckus of folks accusing Hockenberry of groundless complaining, the folks at Appcubby came to the rescue with a full monty on their financial records, showing, down to the dollar, what goes into keeping food on the table for an iPhone app developer (wherein we learned just how much Jasons post on Gas Cubby spurred sales). The Cubby folks backed up the call for free demos and more ad-tracking capabilities as two things that would greatly help the situation.

Sony SRS BTM8 Portable Bluetooth Speaker with NFC

Plenty of portable speaker systems on the market, and we are flooded with plenty of crap. However this Sony unit is just the right size to be portable (245 mm X 185 mm X 88 mm) and looks good, so whats the deal here.

It sports an 3.5m jack as its only means of audio input, which is fine for portable but its a little disappointing the box doesnt have HDMI as well. The power is AC or via 4 x AA battery which we got 16 hours out of a clean set, and 13 out of some rechargeable 2600mAh batteries.

We are glad to say its got a lively, punchy sound which is much better than the others in the same price range - even more so now its just £59.99 (Sony has this listed for £90 on its store) - the dynamic range is enough for a portable unit. We are not looking for all singing all dancing here, just not to sound like a £20 piece of crap, which thankfully it doesnt at all.

The design is great but it does remind us of a handbag which once you see it that way, the image kinda stays with you.

Bluetooth and NFC onboard is fast to connect to and pairs with your handset or tablet quickly.

Highly recommend for a SOHO environment, or maybe the kitchen while youre cooking, you can also take calls on it thanks to its built in mic which does a reasonable job. It does like to pick up background noise though so keep those pots and pans from making any rude interruptions.

Very have this in stock for a reduced £59, perfect for Xmas.

Apple iPhone 2 1 and iTunes 8 Available Next Tuesday

It is now backtracking from its initial prediction that iTunes 8 wont be a hit in Apples Lets Rock September 9 event. Not only iTunes 8 will be available then, but they say Apple will also release the iPhone 2.1 update that in theory will fix its huge password security flaw.

Jacqui hints that the 2.1 update will have new secret features that are absent from the beta.

Olympus FE 300

The Olympus FE-300 distinguishes itself as one of the lightest, least expensive 12 megapixel cameras currently available. Unfortunately, its pictures pale in comparison to those from some higher end, lower resolution cameras. Measuring about 0.9 inch thick and weighing just 4.9 ounces with battery and xD-Picture Card, the FE-300 fits easily into nearly any pants or shirt pocket.

Despite its small design, the camera sports surprisingly accessible controls, with large, flat buttons that rest comfortably even under large thumbs. It lacks a viewfinder, but the cameras 2.5 inch LCD screen can be read clearly from nearly any angle. It includes a modest 35 to 105mm equivalent f/2.8-4.7 3x optical zoom lens. A wider wide angle would be nice, but this zoom range is typical for a camera this size and price.

While the FE-300 lacks manual exposure controls, it offers an otherwise pleasant selection of features. Olympus new Perfect Shot Preview mode stands out among these features as one of the most useful aspects of the camera.

This mode lets you preview how your picture will look under four different EV compensation or white balance settings. If you shoot in awkward lighting, Perfect Shot Preview can really help you take a proper shot without a lot of trial and error or menu hunting.

You can even preview how movie clips will look at different quality settings and frame rates, though the highest quality 30fps VGA movie mode will almost always be your best choice. White balance and ISO sensitivity settings offer some control over your photos. In addition, the camera comes with 14 scene presets to complement its automatic, program auto, ISO boosting or shutter quickening digital stabilization, and movie modes. Finally, like most current digital cameras.

The FE-300 includes a face detection mode that can find your friends faces and adjusts focus and exposure based on them when shooting portraits or group shots. The cameras menu lets you set sensitivity as high as ISO 6400, but lowers the pixel resolution to 3.1 megapixels when you shoot at ISO 3,200 or ISO 6,400.

Arkanoid game demo

Arkanoid game demoIn Arkanoid, "the player controls the "Vaus", a space vessel that acts as the games "paddle" which prevents a ball from falling from the playing field, attempting to bounce it against a number of bricks."

The ball striking a brick causes the brick to disappear. When all the bricks are gone, the player goes to the next level, where another pattern of bricks appear. There are a number of variations (bricks that have to be hit multiple times, flying enemy ships, etc.) and power-up capsules to enhance the Vaus, but the gameplay remains the same.

Do i need to pay if i have WIFI connectivity when i make video calls on Galaxy note 2

Q. just bought my note 2 & im overseas. i make video calls thinking that it should be equivalent to facetime of iphones but seems the person (also using samsung model) im calling can see my phone no. does it mean im using my own call time? Thanks

A. If your connected to wifi you dont have to pay

Is the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 good for everyday use?
Q. Im worried that it might be too big for everyday use, and will it fit in my pocket?

Thanks :)

A. Its absolutely perfect for your everyday needs. The big display and huge battery will make it good for heavy use as well. And dont worry about pocketing the phone. It will fit you just fine.

Why is my Galaxy Note 2 battery draining on standby.?
Q. So before I go to bed my Phone would be 100% When I wake up its around 75-80% I turn the Wifi off and bluetooth also I tone down the brightness. Do you have an app to solve this problem?

A. Have you closed most of your opened apps on your device? Opened apps may drain battery.

Im also wondering, that the battery meter on your phone has gone out of sync with the actual battery power. Here you can find how to fix the problem:

The discussion is for the Kindle Fire, but the same principle will work for any Android devices.

Asus P565

After weeks, actually months, of teasing heres the Asus P656, the first Windows Mobile 6.1 phone with a 800MHz CPU (Marvell TavorP).

Featuring a 2.8” VGA LCD and Glide Technology (equivalent HTCs Touch One), this new WiMo device is fully loaded with HSDPA 3.6Mbps, UMTS 2100, EDGE/GPRS/GSM 900, 1800, 1900.

Class 10, 256MB of flash memory and 128MB of DDR SDRAM, Wifi B/G, Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR, a 3Mpix AF camera, GPS, microSD with SDHC support for a total size of 102 x 60.5 x 16 mm and 120g.

This said, we may all be excited by this 800MHz CPU, but whatever CPU you put in a badly designed device, youll still have a bad experience. Im not saying the P565 is crap, but using a Windows Mobile PDA and Smartphone for over 10 years, I assure you Asus didnt fine tweak it and it will be hard getting the full potential out of its 800MHz. Were not talking about your average Intel CPU here, dont confuse yourself, its CPU may not be as powerful as a good old 800MHz PIII. Nevertheless Im happy to see Asus releasing something new, powerful on paper with a descent VGA screen.

HTC_AT&T Tilt 2 MobileAT&T HTC Pure Mobile
AT&T has officially announced the HTC Pure, which actually hit stores Sunday. Also announced, the Tilt 2, the Touch Pro 2 follow up to the Fuze or the original Tilt, depending on how you want to look at it. Both of the phones have (or will have, for the Tilt 2) Windows Mobile 6.5 on board from the get-go.

The Pure is available for $149.99 after contract and rebate. The Tilt Pro 2 "will be available in the coming weeks" but as per the rumours itll be around $299.99.

Powered by the nations fastest 3G network and the Windows phone platform, the HTC Tilt 2 and HTC PURE deliver an enhanced TouchFLO® 3D interface on a large vibrant touch screen that makes navigation intuitive and rich while enabling smooth access to desktop like web browsing. Both devices embody HTCs approach to put people at the center of the communications experience by providing full access to voice, text, or email in a single contact view, regardless of whether voice, text or email was used. This view can be accessed from the contact card or in the in-call screen during a phone conversation, ensuring the latest conversations are always at hand.

"As one of the first carriers to support Windows Mobile 6.5 in the U.S. and the largest distributor of Windows phones worldwide, AT&T has a long history of leadership in smartphones and Windows Mobile," said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "Twice as many smartphone users choose AT&T over any other carrier and the HTC Tilt 2 and HTC PURE will lead our Windows phone lineup into 2010."

AT&T will support Windows Marketplace for Mobile in 2009 for access to a variety of applications on new AT&T devices, including the HTC PURE and HTC Tilt 2. Additionally, AT&T customers purchases from Windows Marketplace can be added to their monthly statements. After Microsoft delivers Windows Marketplace later this year for other versions of Windows Mobile, AT&T will make it available to customers using those versions.

Windows Mobile 6.5 received several upgrades that enhance ease-of-use, such as a touch-friendly user interface and improved browser with Flash support. Content and applications are just a fingertip away on the redesigned Start Menu and Internet Explorer Mobile will support the rich experiences that many Web pages offer for desktop computers.

"AT&T and HTC have a long history of innovation with Windows phones," said Andy Lees, senior vice president of Microsofts Mobile Communications Business. "AT&T, by bringing out the both the HTC Pure with its touch slate, and the HTC Tilt 2 with its keyboard, gives people the ability to choose a Windows phone that matches their preference."

HTC Tilt 2:
Designed for the business professional, the HTC Tilt 2 is designed with distinct style and strength while delivering the most powerful productivity experience available on a mobile phone. The HTC Tilt 2 features a high-resolution 3.6-inch widescreen WVGA display which can be easily tilted for an expanded viewing area and a large QWERTY keyboard, which is optimized for heavy email use. A quality speakerphone experience is enabled by dual speakers and dual microphones with advanced noise cancellation, and HTCs Straight Talk™ which allows for simplified conference calling and activation of the speakerphone by simply turning over the device. The HTC Tilt 2 also features a 3.2 megapixel camera.

HTC PURE:
Leveraging HTCs TouchFLO 3D experience, the all touch screen HTC PURE offers an advanced touch experience that is optimized for one-hand use, which further evolves the compact smartphone design. Incorporating a large, brilliant 3.2-inch WVGA touch screen, the HTC PURE is crafted to fit perfectly into the hand and accentuates ones sense of style. With a crisp advanced five megapixel auto-focus camera with video capture, expandable memory, gravity sensor and an ambient light sensor, the HTC PURE brings many of the most sophisticated features to a broad consumer audience looking for the professional benefits of a smartphone, without sacrificing size, looks or functionality.

"The HTC Tilt 2 and HTC PURE are not only powerhouse devices, they also provide a natural simplicity in the way we communicate with the people in our lives whether through voice, text or email," said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America. "Our desire is to put people at the center of every mobile experience, and we are pleased to work with AT&T, who shares this common vision."

Cloud SQL pick the plan that fits your app

One of the most requested additions to the Google App Engine platform has been a SQL database, and more than 10,000 developers have signed up for the Google Cloud SQL service since the preview launch last October. Google Cloud SQL automatically provisions and maintains your databases, allowing you to focus on your applications and services.

Since launch, we’ve been busy working on improving the performance, and adding features like scheduled backups and multihoming to increase availability and improve performance. We are also now offering more powerful instances with up to 4GB of RAM.

Today we are announcing our pricing, which will take effect on June 12th with two options to choose from:

  • For developers who want to try out the service, or who have lightweight applications - we offer a flexible “per use” pricing scheme. For example, you can get started with a cloud hosted MySQL database for around a dollar per month. You pay for just what you use.

  • For developers with more traffic, there are packages that offer a discount and help you predict your costs in advance.

Google Cloud SQL is currently in limited preview. If you want to give us a try, start here https://developers.google.com/cloud-sql/.

JPA JDO Java Persistence Tips The Year In Review

If you’re developing a Java application on App Engine you probably already know that you can use JPA and JDO, both standard Java persistence APIs, to interact with the datastore. What you may not know, and what I’m here to point out, is that for the past few months I’ve been accumulating a collection of practical, real-world examples that can help you take full advantage of these powerful APIs.

In episode one I put together a working example of an owned, bidirectional, one-to-many relationship and demonstrated how you can persist child objects just by associating them with parent objects. In episode two I demonstrated how to perform a batch get by issuing a query that only filters on the primary key property of your model object. In episode three I explored the exciting world of “transparent persistence,” explaining how you can modify the persistent state of objects without making any explicit calls to repersist them. In episode four I issued a keys-only query and got the results back crazy-fast because the datastore skipped the extra scan that turns keys into full-fledged entities. And in episode five I demonstrated how serialized fields can help you store arbitrary objects in the datastore.

After episode five I got a little bit tired, but there was still so much more to say, so I pressed on.

In episode six I powered through a discussion of long-running transactions and unearthed the ancient secret of how you can use optimistic locking to prevent users from updating stale data. In episode seven I explained how using unindexed properties can speed up your writes and save you valuable CPU time. In episode eight I attempted (cautiously) to blow your mind with a solution for case-insensitive queries. And finally, in episode nine, mere hours after releasing support for != and IN query operators in the SDK, I dove under the hood of these operators to help you understand their performance characteristics.

Many of these topics were inspired by questions from you, our users, so if there are topics you’d like to see covered in the coming year please let me know via the forum. As long as you keep reading and asking questions, I’ll keep writing.

Developer Insights Teaching thousands of students to program on Udacity with App Engine part 2

This post is the second of our two-part series discussing how Udacity uses Google App Engine.

Today’s guest blogger is Chris Chew, senior software engineer at Udacity, which offers free online courses in programming and other subjects.  Chris shares how Udacity itself is built using App Engine.

Steve Huffman blogged yesterday about how App Engine enables the project-based learning that makes his web development course so powerful.  People are often surprised to learn that Udacity itself is built on App Engine.

The choice to use App Engine originally came from Mike Sokolsky, our CTO and cofounder, after his experience keeping the original version of our extremely popular AI course running on a series of virtual machines.  Mike found App Engine’s operational simplicity extremely compelling after weeks of endlessly spinning up additional servers and administering MySQL replication in order to meet the crazy scale patterns we experience.

Close to a year later, with ten months of live traffic on App Engine, we continue to be satisfied customers.  While there are a few things we do outside App Engine, our choice to continue using App Engine for our core application is clear:  We prefer to spend our time figuring out how to scale personalized education, not memcached.  App Engine’s infrastructure is better than what we could build ourselves, and it frees us to focus on behavior rather than operations.

How Udacity Uses App Engine

The App Engine features we use most include a pretty broad swath of the platform:

A high-level representation of our “stack” looks something like this:

Trails and Trove are two libraries developed in-house mainly by Piotr Kaminski.  Trails supplies very clean semantics for creating families of RESTful endpoints on top of a webapp2.RequestHandler with automagic marshalling.  Trove is a wrapper around NDB that adds common property types (e.g. efficient dereferencing of key properties), yet another layer of caching for entities with relations (both in-process and memcache), and an event “watcher” framework for reliably triggering out-of-band processing when data changes.

Something notable that is not represented in the drawing above is a specific set of monkey patches from Trove we apply to NDB to create better hooks similar to the existing pre/post-put/delete hooks.  These custom hooks power a “watcher” abstraction that provides targeted pieces of code the opportunity to react to changes in the data layer.  Execution of each watcher is deferred and runs outside the scope of the request so as to not increase response times.

Latency

During our first year of scaling on App Engine we learned its performance is a complex thing to understand.  Response time is a function of several factors both inside and outside our control.  App Engine’s ability to “scale-out” is undeniable, but we have observed high variance in response times for a given request, even during periods with low load on the system.  As a consequence we have learned to do a number of things to minimize the impact of latency variance:

  • Converting usage of the old datastore API to the new NDB API

  • Using NDB.tasklet coroutines as much as possible to enable parallelism during blocking RPC operations

  • Not indexing fields by default and adding an index only when we need it for a query

  • Carefully avoiding index hotspots by indexing fields with predictable values only when necessary (i.e. auto-now DateTime and enumerated “choices” String properties).

  • Materializing data views very aggressively so we can limit each request to the fewest datastore queries possible

This last point is obvious in the sense that naturally you get faster responses when you do less work.  But we have taken pre-materializing views to an extreme level by denormalizing several aspects of our domain into read-optimized records.  For example, the read-optimized version of a user’s profile record might contain standard profile information, plus privacy configuration, course enrollment information, course progress, and permissions -- all things a data modeler would normally want to store separately.  We pile it together into the equivalent of a materialized view so we can fetch it all in one query.

Conclusion

App Engine is an amazingly complete and reliable platform that works astonishingly well for a huge number of use cases.  It is very apparent the services and APIs have been designed by people who know how to scale web applications, and we feel lucky to have the opportunity to ride on the shoulders of such giants.  It is trivial to whip together a proof-of-concept for almost any idea, and the subsequent work to scale your app is significantly less than if you had rolled your own infrastructure.

As with any platform, there are tradeoffs.  The tradeoff with App Engine is that you get an amazing suite of scale-ready services at the cost of relentlessly optimizing to minimize latency spikes.  This is an easy tradeoff for us because App Engine has served us well through several exciting usage spikes and there is no question the progress we have already made towards our mission is significantly more than if we were also building our own infrastructure.  Like most choices in life, this choice can be boiled down to a bumper sticker:

Editor’s note: Chris Chew and Steve Huffman will be participating in a Google Developers Live Hangout tomorrow, Thursday, November 1st, check it out here and submit your questions for them to answer live on air.

The iPad Adventure

Ever since Fred let me have a try at his iPad, my mind is set to get one. For weeks, I had been monitoring the grapevine and hoping that the iPad will be released at the earliest date possible.

Finally, on 19 July, Apple announced that the iPad will be launched in 9 countries on 23 July, and Singapore is in the list.

The iPad is so highly sought-after by Apple fans and techie-consumers, that a queue is guaranteed to build up at all of the 30 reseller locations.

And I actually applied time off from work just to make sure I get my local warrantied iPad the very first moment it is officially launched in Singapore. (And was I glad I did)

My original plan was to head to the nearest reseller to my house: Junction 8 Best Denki. When Philip also expressed his interest to get one, I decided to head to the reseller near to his house: City Square Best Denki. I was told that these small outlets would not have sufficient stocks, but Im willing to take the risk. Its not as if the iPad is in limited production quantity: worst case is wait another few more days or weeks.

I arrived at the Best Denki entrance at about 8.40am. There were about 10-odd people in the queue already.

I then went to buy breakfast while Philip queued for me. When I returned, the queue grew to about 20.

At about 9.15am, the Best Denki staff made an announcement about the procedures in purchasing the iPad, as follows:

1. When the Apple staff come to you, inform them of the model you want and they will issue you with the sales memo.
2. Once the store opens, proceed to the cashier to pay.
3. Bring the receipt to the Apple counter to receive your iPad.
4. Only iPad can be purchased. Any accessory purchase could only be made after 1pm.

Then at 9.35am, the Apple staff started making their rounds. Philip requested for the 16GB 3G+Wifi (S$928) while I requested for the 16GB Wifi (S$728). When the guy after me asked for 16GB Wifi, the Apple staff told him its sold out. I was like "WHAT? AM I LUCKY!" I was the last person in the outlet to get the 16GB Wifi! I then deduced that there are only 8 sets of 16GB Wifi because the sale invoice I was given had a handwritten code that said "W16-08", which means Wifi version. The 3G version would read "G16-xx".

Eventually, the guy behind me decided to get the 32GB Wifi (S$878). Anyway, he was contemplating throughout the wait between 16GB and 32GB, as we rationalised with him whether the capacity is sufficient.

With the sales memo in my hands, there was nothing left to worry. It is already mine. No need to rush into the store. In fact, a few of the queue-ers loitered around to wait for their friends to arrive so that they could pay for themselves.

When we reached the collection counter, we glanced at all the available stocks laid nicely on the counter. I reckon there are about 60 sets in total. I happen to notice each box had the handwritten code that corresponds to the sales memo, and thats how they ensured each unit is matched to the sales memo. The 64GB 3G+Wifi had 22 sets, because I saw "G64-22" at the end of the stack. As for the rest of the models, I didnt probe.

By 10.10am, were out of Best Denki with our "trophies". The whole experience was orderly and quiet. There was no hype, no groans. In Philips words, "disappointing". I told him, "You want action, go queue at Wheelock or 313."

Later the afternoon, I read a Straits Times online article and found that they had reporters going to Parkway and Wheelock to take photos. Fortunately for us, we were spared of the publicity.

At the time of posting this article, my wife is still playing "Angry Birds", a paid app at US$4.99, the first that I downloaded. And up till the time I worked on this article, I was browsing the iTunes App Store to look for free and interesting apps to download.

Many friends have contacted me over SMS, calls, Facebook and Twitter about the iPad. Some asked me for review and comments. All I can say is: the iPad is defined by the apps you use. See, in every Apple device, there is always a primary function: iPod is music and video, iPhone is phone. So, what is iPads primary function? Its everything and anything.

As a first-time iPod/iPhone/iPad OS interface user, I am humbly impressed by the convenience of iTunes App Store, and truly appreciate how it actually propels these devices to phenomenal successes. Without such a convenient platform, the capabilities of a device stops short of whatever applications it comes with out-of-the-box. In addition, while some other phone makers have tried to set up their own apps store, it is generally met with frustration by the consumer who is unable to find a lot of useful or interesting apps to increase their joy of experiencing the device.

The only time I lose interest in the iPad is the time when I can no longer find apps that are useful to me. And I suppose its quite a hard feat to achieve, when there are over 225,000 apps in store.
