Sony SRS BTM8 Portable Bluetooth Speaker with NFC

Plenty of portable speaker systems on the market, and we are flooded with plenty of crap. However this Sony unit is just the right size to be portable (245 mm X 185 mm X 88 mm) and looks good, so whats the deal here.

It sports an 3.5m jack as its only means of audio input, which is fine for portable but its a little disappointing the box doesnt have HDMI as well. The power is AC or via 4 x AA battery which we got 16 hours out of a clean set, and 13 out of some rechargeable 2600mAh batteries.

We are glad to say its got a lively, punchy sound which is much better than the others in the same price range - even more so now its just £59.99 (Sony has this listed for £90 on its store) - the dynamic range is enough for a portable unit. We are not looking for all singing all dancing here, just not to sound like a £20 piece of crap, which thankfully it doesnt at all.

The design is great but it does remind us of a handbag which once you see it that way, the image kinda stays with you. 

Bluetooth and NFC onboard is fast to connect to and pairs with your handset or tablet quickly. 

Highly recommend for a SOHO environment, or maybe the kitchen while youre cooking, you can also take calls on it thanks to its built in mic which does a reasonable job. It does like to pick up background noise though so keep those pots and pans from making any rude interruptions.

Two New Sony Devices Visit the FCC with LTE – Possibly the Xperia Z2 and a New Tablet

Mobile World Congress is coming up, in a little less than a month. We are expecting Sony to announce a few new devices at Mobile World Congress, since they really didn’t announce anything new (in terms of flagships) at CES earlier this month. We’ve been hearing a lot about the Xperia Z2 a.k.a. the Sirius. It supposedly going to have a 5.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution display, Snapdragon 800 inside, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 23MP rear-facing camera. Which the FCC documents don’t really give us any information about the Xperia Z2.

But now there’s a new device that has shown up at the FCC. This one is the PM-0740-BV and is a tablet. Which Blog of Mobile states, is codenamed Castor, and could be released in the second quarter in Japan on NTT DoCoMo and KDDI. That’s about all the information we have about a new Xperia Tablet. But like the Xperia Tablet Z and all the other smartphones Sony has released in the past year, I’d expect it to be water-resistant and dust proof. This is actually the first time we’ve heard of a new tablet coming from Sony, but I’m sure many of our readers are excited for one of these.

With Mobile World Congress right around the corner, we’ll probably start to see more and more rumors about these two Sony devices and others. So we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled to see what goes down between now and Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. And as always we’ll be covering everything that goes down in Barcelona from February 24-27th.

How many of you would be interested in a nice 10-inch Xperia Tablet, maybe the Xperia Tablet Z2? I’d love to get my hands on one, I’d love it even more if it were a Xperia Tablet Z2 Google Play Edition? Just throwing that out there.

Sony launches new Vaio Flip hybrid laptops in 13 14 and 15 inch sizes

Sony has introduced its new Vaio Flip line of hybrid convertible laptops with a unique new hinge design that lets users flip the screen around and use them as tablets. Prices start at Rs. 94,990 for the Flip 14, while the Flip 13 starts at Rs. 99,990 and the Flip 15 starts at Rs. 1,04,990.

As manufacturers race to design ever-slimmer laptops that can also be used comfortably as tablets over the past year, 2-in-1 designs featuring detachable halves and double hinges have proliferated. Sonys latest hinge design allows the screen to be flipped over backwards and then folded back down over the keyboard. The company promises that users will enjoy a variety of new ways to use the Vaio Flip mobile PCs, and enjoy the comfort and functionality of a traditional clamshell laptop.

The Vaio Flip devices can be used as normal laptops, but with the screen flipped over, a user can share what he or she is working on with another person. While the user can work on any productivity task in laptop mode, he or she can make a quick presentation in viewer mode, and then close the lid with the screen outside to watch a movie or browse the Web using touch interaction alone.

Vaio Flip is available in three sizes with 13-, 14- and 15-inch screens to suit a variety of users and scenarios. All three models run on 4th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors. While the smallest model uses a fast solid-state drive, the two bigger ones use a hybrid drive design for both speed and storage capacity. All three models use full HD screens with Sonys Triluminous Display technology for image enhancement.

Sony also claims to have used several proprietary techniques to enhance sound quality. The devices also have high-quality cameras that can be used to take high-resolution images of documents.

The Vaio Flip 13 weighs 1.31kg and has a rated battery life of 7.5 hours. All three models come in silver, while the F13 is also available in black. The Flip 15 features dedicated Nvidia graphics processors. All three models come with backlit keyboards.

All Vaio Flip models have a one-year accidental damage protection warranty and buyers can add a two-year extended warranty for Rs. 999. As a limited-time introductory offer, Sony is giving away a pair of MDR-XB910A headphones fee with every Vaio Flip device. Buyers also get three months of free music downloads from Sony Music.
